Bombay to Mumbai via Bom Baia , Mumbadevi , “Good-Bay”

In 2015 , I researched on the city of Bombay ( Now Mumbai ). It was interesting to discover the rise and (now) fall of this truly “man-made” city out of five islands !
Here are some milestones on the time lines
- A collection of five islands discovered by the Portuguese
- Gifting it to the British as “dowry” ,
- Leased to the East India Company
- The engineering marvel of joining the five islands to form the current “Bombay” or Mumbai as it was named in mid 1990s and is called today
- Glorious days of Bombay with establishment of modern city architecture by British ( Most of the infrastructure that one sees today including public hospitals , bridges etc were build during this time )
- The city of “Cotton Mills”
- The center of “Worker’s Movement” and “strikes”
- The setting up of “Bollywood” — the Hindi Cinema capital !
- The rise of “Shiv-Sena” of Bal Thakre supported by Vasantrao Naik
- Crushing of “Worker’s Movement” and closure of Cotton Mills
- City turning into crime capital and gang wars
- Over congested city of “Squalor” , slums of slums “Dharavi”
- The city that never sleeps
- Mills turning into Malls
- End of “open” gang wars in Mumbai
- Serial blasts in Mumbai
- Attack’ on Mumbai by Terrorists from Pakistan
- (Mis) Rule of 30+years on Mumbai Municipal Corporation by the Shivsena
- Mumbai turning into a tragedy during the Covid19 Pandemic ( June 2020)
